Rapid determination on the stability of coal water slurry

  • To shorten the testing duration on the static stability of coal water slurry (CWS), the temperature was selected as an acceleration factor and its influence on the static stability of CWS at 30℃ to 55℃ was studied quantitatively and objectively by using Turbiscan Lab analyzer in this study. Moreover, the apparent viscosity and the variation of particles mean diameter were measured to elucidate the effect of temperature on the static stability of CWS.The results showed that the increase in temperature was associated with a decrease in the apparent viscosity of CWS.Meanwhile, the particles mean diameter gradually increased. The changes of these slurry properties facilitated particles settling and therefore deteriorated the static stability of CWS.According to the findings mentioned above, a prediction model on the static stability of CWS sample was established. From this model, the acceleration ratio (AR) could be calculated, the AR values at 45, 50 and 55℃ were 1.9, 2.3 and 2.7 respectively, which were consistent with the data of phase separation index (PSI) measured by Turbiscan Lab analyzer from the macroscopic perspective. Therefore, rising temperature is a feasible way to rapidly, quantitatively and accurately evaluate the static stability of CWS.
