Waterpollution’s prevention and comprehensive utilization of abandoned coal mines in China under the new normal life

  • With China’s economic development entering the new normal status and the continuous promotion of sup-ply-side reform, a large number of coal mines have been closed because of resource depletion and overcapacity. In order to effectively deal with a series of problems such as waste of resources, environmental pollution and a low efficiency of resource utilization caused by the discharge and abandonment of large quantities of mine water after mine closing, the spatial-temporal development nature and characteristics of closed mines in China are systematically analyzed. The characteristics and mode of mine water pollution in China, and the distribution properties of mine water in Shanxi-Shaanxi-InnerMongolia-Ningxia-Gansu, East China, Northeast China, South China and Xinjiang-Qinghai are described.Aiming at the negative effects of geological disasters caused by abandoned mine water, surface water and groundwater pollution, soil heavy metal accumulation and affecting vegetation growth, the pre-control and treatment measures are presented in the aspects of mine pit closure, abandoned goaf and cascade pollution.Combined with the actual hydrogeochemical characteristics of waste mine water in China, the treatment methods and process systems for clean mine water, mine water containing suspended solids, mine water with high salinity, acid mine water and mine water containing toxic substances are proposed.According to the current situation of water resource utilization in coal mines, the resource utilization path is proposed to establish an underground sewage treatment center and a pumped storage power station according to local conditions. Also, combined with local economic development, water resource shortage and ecological culture development, a comprehensive utilization system has been developed for the utilization of waste mine water for underground production and surface livelihood, agriculture, industry and ecology. Finally, the paper outlines the green development strategy and future development direction of the waste mine water utilization in China. That is to actively promote the comprehensive utilization of waste mine water, effectively alleviate the shortage of water resources in some areas of China, realize the green and healthy development of coal industry and the development of ecological culture in mining areas, and satisfy the economic, social and environmental requirements.
